The Ventures of Logan's 1st Year

Dear Little Man,

I really can't believe we have now celebrated your 1st Birthday! It is unbelievable to me that a year ago your father and I were in the hospital waiting for your arrival. The day you were born was beautiful and unusually warm for February and we couldn't have had better weather for your birthday.

We have been so blessed this year and let me tell you it has been quite a venture. It wasn't easy being in school this first year, especially since I had to go back to class when you were only 3 weeks old, but we managed and the best part of my day was having you placed in my arms when I picked you up from Pooh and OGO's. You weren't always easy for them either, never wanting to nap and crying and crying all day. But we managed and still thought of you as the most precious baby ever.

As you have gotten older you have become such a happy and silly little boy. You laugh and giggle over everything. You have a wonderful temperment and I can say that you are rarely upset. You are so interested in everything and very inquisitive. When you are introduced to a new situation you sit back and take everything in but are very quick to become the life of the party, making sure everyone sees you and gives you a smile.

You have had a lot of experiences in your short span of life. We've taken you to Kansas twice, Brave games, Auburn games, Chattanooga, swimming in the lake, hiking up Stone Mountain, Panama City Beach, the zoo and camping. We take you to restaurants with us and you do so well sitting in your chair. During mommy's Christmas break we were going to Gymboree and you loved it. You learned to climb up stains and crawl through tunnels and of course making sure everyone knew you were there.

You have always been ahead developmentally, learning to roll over and sit and crawl so early. However you have been more cautious when it comes to walking. We have been sure you were going to be walking at 10 months, then 11, then came 12 and you still were only taking a couple of steps here and there. We know you will walk when you are ready and I am sure it will be soon. Your favorite word is dog and dada. You say mama when provoked and I am certain you are saying book and ball now. You are sharing a nanny with Hank 4 days a week and Carissa really seems to work with you a lot on your words and sounds.

You have gotten so big and still look just like your dad. Anyone we meet instantly sees your father in you and wonder if I actually delivered you. I tell them you have my personality and I am just fine with that. At a year old you are wearing 18 month clothes and we are still cloth diapering, which has been much easier than I ever could have expected. I am also thankful for the 7 months that I was able to breastfed you and although I would have liked it to last longer I am happy that we made it as lomg as we did. Even though you probably don't need it I still love to rock you to sleep. I love listening to your breath begin to slow and feel you relax as you fall to sleep. Once we got back from Thanksgiving in Kansas we decided it was time to wean the middle of the night bottle and you began to sleep all night from 8:00-6:30. You have also recently decided that instead of an afternoon nap you just need a two hour morning nap and you are ready to go until bedtime. You have also become such a bigger eater and although you don't like everything you are usually pretty good about trying things.

We had so much fun celebrating your first Christmas and there was no shortage of gifts. Your birthday was no exception. We had the party at Pooh and OGO's with about 30 of our closest friends and family. You had 6 buddies there and it was so cute watching you all crawl around together. You loved your cupcake that your mama made and actually kept in fairly clean. It was such a special day for your dad and I and we are so thankful for these memories and moments from your first year.

Your favorite thing right now is playing outside, really this has always been a favorite. You get so upset when we bring you in from playing. You are constantly trying to open the doors to get outside. Once you are out there you don't do a whole lot though but try and eat the grass and mulch. You like the slide at the playground but don't really care for swings. You don't hate them but you would rather be doing something else. You also love playing in the water and have started blowing bubbles in the water also. You love your doggies and chasing the cat around the house. You don't watch much tv but you sure are mesmerized by Curious George. Your favorite book is 5 Little Sleepyheads and you really seem to enjoy Alternative music. You would eat yogurt for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I allowed it.

I am writing you this letter so you know just how much your mommy and daddy love you and for me because I don't want to forget anything from this venture with you. Although I would love time to slow down, I am also excited to see you grow and see more of your personality come out. Oh and one more thing you love is to be held and have the person holding you jump up and down, bouncing you. You always loved your jumper when you were little and still enjoy the up and down movement. There are so many other things I know I don't want to forget but I feel this is getting long enough.

I love you to the moon and back my little man!

your mama
